The Horsham Township Police Department is alerting residents about its participation in the “Blue Envelope Program,” an initiative designed to improve communication and safety during traffic stops and other roadside interactions.

The program is intended to assist drivers who may have conditions that affect communication, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), anxiety, dementia, or other communication challenges. Participants can store important documents such as a driver’s license, registration, and emergency contact information inside a specially marked blue envelope that can be handed to police officers during a stop.

According to the department, the initiative helps officers quickly recognize when a driver may need additional time, patience, or accommodations while communicating. The program also raises awareness among law enforcement and emergency responders about behaviors or reactions they may encounter during roadside situations.

Officials say the envelopes are available free of charge to anyone who could benefit from the program.

Residents interested in obtaining a blue envelope can stop by the Horsham Township Police Department at any time.
