Three of the Philadelphia region’s largest health systems, Jefferson Health, Penn Medicine, and Temple Health, are advancing major expansion plans that will directly impact Montgomery County, according to reporting from The Philadelphia Business Journal.
Even with rising costs and uncertainty in healthcare funding, Jefferson Health is prioritizing growth in Montgomery and Bucks counties, including continued investment in Abington-area facilities and planned expansion at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital in East Norriton. According to the article, the system is considering more than $1 billion in future projects focused on outpatient centers, community hospitals, and neighborhood care sites designed to improve local access.
Penn Medicine is also expanding its suburban footprint with a $282 million outpatient care center under construction in Montgomery Township, expected to open in 2027. The facility will bring services such as cancer care, imaging, and specialty treatment closer to local patients, with additional regional outpatient sites under consideration.
Temple Health is focusing on strengthening services on its North Philadelphia campus, while continuing to expand its Fox Chase Cancer Center network, which already includes locations serving Bucks and Montgomery counties.
Together, the systems’ plans signal continued growth in suburban healthcare access, even as leaders warn that rising operational costs and funding pressures could affect the pace of development.
