Upper Moreland prospect gets NFL shot with New York Giants

Ryan Schernecke earned All-American recognition and was a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award, given annually to the top lineman in Division II football

Football fans around Upper Moreland and the surrounding Montgomery County area will get to see a local standout star stay somewhat local.

After going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, the New York Giants quickly moved to sign undrafted Kutztown offensive lineman Ryan Schernecke.

During his college career, Schernecke helped anchor one of the nation’s most effective offensive lines. Kutztown ranked among the best in limiting sacks and was also one of the top scoring teams in Division II. His performance earned him multiple honors, including All-American recognition and finalist status for the Gene Upshaw Award, given annually to the top lineman in Division II football.

At Upper Moreland, he played offensive and defensive line (tackle/DT) and also participated in basketball. He earned all-conference honors and helped Upper Moreland win a district title in 2020. He was considered one of the key linemen on the team during his time there and part of a strong offensive front.

"So incredibly proud of Ryan Schernecke, UM Alumni, for signing with the New York Giants and continuing his football career at the highest level," Upper Moreland Athletic Department wrote on social media. "Upper Moreland is so proud of you, Ryan!!!"

At 6-foot-7 and over 320 lbs., Schernecke brings size and length to the offensive line, traits that immediately make him stand out, even compared to many drafted players. His physical profile, combined with strong technique, made him one of the most dominant linemen at the Division II level.

Durability has also been a hallmark of his game. He started 43 of 46 collegiate games and helped lead Kutztown to three consecutive conference championships, showing consistency and toughness throughout his career.

Schernecke earned a significant undrafted free agent deal that includes $282,000 guaranteed and a $35,000 signing bonus.
