The motto of a police department is to serve and protect its community. Officers must show that they care about the well-being of the members of the community they serve.

Recently, the Hatboro Police Department had a unique rescue mission for one of its community “residents.”

A swan found itself injured and in unfamiliar territory in a parking lot shopping center, the Bank Street Lot, near the intersection of York & West Lehman Avenue. That is when Officer Bob Ottey sprang into action.

Officer Ottey proceeded to handle the swan with care, wrapping it in a blanket and carrying it to safety. After the swan was in “police custody,” it was transported to the Aark Foundation Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Bucks County, where it will be nursed back to health.

“We are very happy to report that the swan is doing well in the rehabilitation center,” The Hatboro Police Department wrote. “Thank you to our Hatboro Police Officers and Mr. Ottey for all of their help and kind actions in rescuing the swan!”
