Hatboro Borough is inviting residents to weigh in on the future of the West Monument Avenue Bridge during an upcoming town hall meeting, as officials consider whether to move forward with a major transportation grant tied to the project.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Hatboro Borough Hall.
The discussion comes after a Borough Council meeting on March 3, when residents raised concerns about the bridge and increased traffic in the area, particularly in light of the ongoing closure of a nearby bridge on West Moreland Avenue in Montgomery County. While council members discussed the grant tied to the West Monument Avenue Bridge project, many residents had left before that portion of the meeting began.
The project is funded through a Multimodal Transportation Grant, which is set to expire on August 21, 2026. If the Borough decides to proceed, it must apply for an extension by May 23, 2026.
The proposed project would require the demolition of the existing wooden bridge and replacement with a larger structure built to meet PennDOT standards. Borough officials note that a larger bridge could allow heavier and more frequent traffic, including trucks, through the area, something that has raised concerns among some residents since the grant was first awarded.
Officials also point out that the current bridge is in good structural condition and has not been in immediate need of replacement, which is one reason the Borough has not moved forward with the grant to date.
The April 1 town hall will not be a formal council meeting. Only three council members are expected to attend, and the session is intended as an informational forum for residents to share feedback and ask questions before any decision is made.
Borough Council is expected to formally discuss the potential grant extension at its April 27 meeting.
The town hall is open to all Hatboro residents, not just those living near West Monument Avenue. Officials encourage anyone with questions or concerns to attend and participate in the discussion, or to contact Borough Hall at 215-443-9100 ahead of the meeting.
