A Montgomery County family is mourning the loss of a 69-year-old man who died after a bicycle crash believed to have been caused by a pothole on a Fort Washington roadway, according to a report.

Joseph Kenas, a resident of Abington Township, was riding along Morris Road on March 10 when he struck a pothole near Germantown Academy. The impact caused serious injuries, and he was transported to a Philadelphia hospital, where he remained for several days. He died on March 13 from head injuries suffered in the accident.

According to the report, Kenas was known to family and friends as an active cyclist and a devoted father and grandfather. He regularly rode through the area where the crash occurred, which is a common route for local cyclists.

Kenas is survived by his family, including his children and grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for later this week.

"It was such a beautiful day out," his son Stephen said in an interview with NBC 10. "He had to get out."

According to state data, roadway conditions remain an ongoing concern across the region. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reported receiving more than 13,000 pothole complaints in southeastern Pennsylvania over the past year, including prior reports along Morris Road.

Neighbors say the stretch of road where the incident occurred has been a recurring problem area. The specific pothole involved in the crash has since been repaired.

The incident has renewed concerns among residents about road maintenance and safety, particularly for cyclists who frequently share local roadways. Officials continue to encourage residents to report roadway hazards to help prevent future accidents.
