A routine patrol by officers with the Upper Moreland Township Police Department led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of its driver earlier this month along York Road, according to police.
Rajab Khakimov, of the 2900 block of Thunderhead Road in Abington Township, is facing a felony charge stemming from the incident.
According to police, the incident happened around 2:14 p.m. on March 3 when an officer on patrol spotted a black Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound on York Road. After running the vehicle’s Pennsylvania registration through the national crime database, the officer learned the car had been reported stolen the day before, March 2, through the Philadelphia Police Department.
The officer followed the vehicle as it continued northbound toward the intersection with Moreland Road, crossing into Upper Moreland Township. A traffic stop was conducted a short distance later near the 100 block of York Road.
The driver, identified by police as Khakimov, was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Investigators confirmed with Philadelphia authorities that the vehicle had been reported stolen but was not needed for forensic processing, allowing Upper Moreland police to arrange for the car’s return to its owner.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and taken to police headquarters before being released back to the victim.
Khakimov now faces charges related to receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 15, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. before Judge Thomas P. Murt.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
