HORSHAM ROAD REPAIRS

Sections of Horsham Road ‘crumbling away,’ township officials warn

The deteriorating section runs between Tournament Drive near Hatboro-Horsham High School and Easton Road

  • Local

Drivers traveling along a heavily used stretch of Horsham Road are being urged to use caution as the roadway is “starting to crumble away,” according to township officials.

The deteriorating section runs between Tournament Drive near Hatboro-Horsham High School and Easton Road. Officials say the problem has progressed beyond simple potholes, with the roadway itself breaking apart in several areas.

The worst damage appears in the passing lanes in both directions, where pavement conditions have worsened significantly. Township officials are warning drivers to stay alert, particularly during nighttime and rainy conditions when damaged areas may be harder to see.

Horsham Township says the road is owned and maintained by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), which is responsible for repairs, including pothole patching and paving. Township staff say they have been regularly contacting PennDOT to report the worsening conditions.

Residents are also encouraged to report concerns directly to PennDOT by calling 1-800-349-7623 or submitting a request through the agency’s online customer care system.

There may be relief ahead for drivers.

PennDOT has plans to mill and repave Horsham Road between Tournament Drive and Easton Road, though the timeline remains unclear. The project had been expected to take place last fall, but PennDOT’s contractor reportedly ran out of time before colder temperatures and winter weather set in.

Township officials say they will provide updates as they receive more information about when the paving work will begin.

In the meantime, drivers are urged to slow down and remain cautious when traveling the damaged stretch of road.
