Amazon announced it will close all of its Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go physical stores, including locations in Bucks, Montgomery and Delaware counties.

The locations include Middletown, Bensalem, and Warrington (Bucks), Willow Grove (Montgomery) and Broomall (Delco) as the company shifts its brick-and-mortar strategy to focus on expanding Whole Foods Market.

The last day of operation for those locations will be Feb. 1.

In a statement released Tuesday, Amazon said the decision follows a review of how best to serve customers and outlined plans to convert some existing Amazon Fresh and Go locations into Whole Foods stores. The company did not provide a timeline for the closures or specify which locations will be converted.

"While we've seen encouraging signals in our Amazon-branded physical grocery stores, we haven't yet created a truly distinctive customer experience with the right economic model needed for large-scale expansion," the company said.

Amazon Fresh debuted locally in Warrington in 2021 and later expanded to Bensalem and Middletown in 2024 after delays. While physical stores are closing, Amazon said customers in select areas will still be able to shop Amazon Fresh online.

Other areas locations that will no longer be open include:

Broomall: 2924 Springfield Road in the Broomall Commons Shopping Center

Willow Grove: 102 Park Avenue

Nearly four years ago, Amazon Fresh was primed to be the anchor store at The Shops at Town Square at Allentown and Forty Foot roads in Towamencin Township, Montgomery County, but, due to a volatile economy at the time, that plan never materialized.

Amazon acquired Whole Foods in 2017 and currently operates more than 500 locations across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. The company plans to open more than 100 additional Whole Foods stores in the coming years, along with expanding its smaller-format Whole Foods Market Daily Shop locations, which are designed for quick, neighborhood grocery shopping.
