Following more than 36 consecutive hours of work during a prolonged winter storm, the Horsham Township’s Public Works Department has begun rotating crews off duty to allow employees time to rest and return home to their families.

Township officials expressed appreciation for the Public Works team, whose efforts continued throughout challenging conditions that included heavy snow, strong winds, sleet, freezing rain, and extremely cold temperatures in the aftermath of the snow storm.

While some roads and streets may still be less than ideal, officials emphasized that cleanup operations are ongoing and will continue in the days ahead.

"One thing is for sure, we are not going anywhere and we are not going to stop," Horsham Township officials wrote.

The township has now entered the storm cleanup phase, which will be carried out in several stages. Crews will first focus on roads requiring continuous salting and plowing to maintain safe travel. Next, efforts will shift to pushing snow back to curbs and shoulders where necessary. Public Works staff will also shovel and salt township-owned sidewalks. Finally, snow removal operations will include hauling snow from cul-de-sacs, with the smallest cul-de-sacs receiving priority attention.

Officials noted that residents sometimes question why plows return to streets that have already been cleared. Township leaders explained that pushing snow back as far as possible is essential to ensure adequate road width for school buses, emergency vehicles, mail delivery, trash collection, and other essential services. These additional passes are not made intentionally to inconvenience residents, but rather to maintain safe and functional roadways.

"We really appreciate all the understanding, patience and cooperation," Horsham Township officials said. "It is not easy and the winter is not over. Just remember, we are all in this together."
