Cleanup efforts are underway in Horsham Township and the Borough of Hatboro following the end of snow and icy conditions left behind by the weekend winter storm.
Township officials said Public Works crews have been working for more than 27 consecutive hours to clear roads and manage storm impacts.
Extremely cold temperatures, combined with limited sunlight today, have reduced the effectiveness of road salt, making it unlikely that roadways will return to 100% normal. Township officials expressed hope that any sunshine on Monday would assist with melting.
With prolonged cold temperatures expected throughout the week, snow and ice are likely to remain in place for some time. Public Works crews will continue pushing snow back as far as possible to prevent roadways from becoming increasingly narrow. Officials warned that if additional snowfall occurs before melting takes place, travel lanes could become more restricted.
Residents are asked not to shovel, blow, or plow snow back into the street, as this creates safety hazards and slows cleanup operations. Township officials also encouraged residents to check on elderly or disabled neighbors who may need assistance during the extreme cold.
