The Upper Dublin Township Police Department is calling attention to one of the most serious school bus violations captured since launching its school bus safety camera program.
Through a partnership with Bus Patrol and the Upper Dublin School District, Upper Dublin police officers have been reviewing violations recorded by cameras mounted on district school buses since October 2025. According to police, a recent incident stands out as one of the most “egregious” violations reviewed to date.
The violation occurred at approximately 6:37 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at the intersection of North Limekiln Pike and Golden Drive. Video footage shows a vehicle illegally passing a stopped school bus while its red warning lights were flashing and its stop arm was activated as students were boarding or exiting.
Police said the outcome could have been far more serious than the citation the driver will now receive. Fortunately, the students involved exercised caution, preventing what authorities say could have resulted in serious injury or worse.
Upper Dublin police are reminding drivers that state law requires motorists to stop at least 10 feet from a school bus when red signal lights are flashing and stop arms are deployed. Violating that law not only carries fines and penalties, but also puts children’s lives at risk.
Drivers who are caught on camera violating the rule are supposed to be issued a fine of $300.
