A man was taken into custody following a police pursuit, crash and drone-assisted search involving a stolen vehicle in the Hatboro area on Jan. 18, 2026, police said.
According to police, a Hatboro officer was on routine patrol near 50 North York Road when his in-car system alerted him to a black Acura sedan traveling southbound that was associated with a stolen Maryland registration. The vehicle accelerated and ran a red light at South York Road and Suburban Avenue.
The officer on patrol activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply. The pursuit was later discontinued near South York Road and Crooked Billet Road due to safety concerns.
A short time later, another officer located the Acura on Newington Drive, just off South York Road, where it had crashed into a parked vehicle in a driveway. Both the driver’s and passenger’s doors were found open.
Police from Hatboro, Upper Moreland and a K-9 unit responded. A drone equipped with thermal imaging was deployed, and officers detected a heat signature consistent with a fleeing suspect. Upper Moreland officers located and took the individual into custody without incident.
Police later confirmed the vehicle and registration were stolen, with the original report filed by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect was identified as Devon Vincent Harris, 24, of Washington, D.C., who told police he had been inside the vehicle at the time of the crash and was not injured. Despite an extensive search, a second occupant was not located.
After being advised of his Miranda rights, police say Harris admitted he was in the vehicle but denied driving, stating he was asleep when the crash occurred. He told investigators he ran after seeing another individual flee the scene and surrendered after noticing the police drone overhead.
Harris is facing a felony charge of receiving stolen property.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19, 2026 , at 11:00 a.m. before Judge Todd Stephens.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
