The Eagles have requested to interview Bobby Slowik for their vacant offensive coordinator position, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter

Slowik is an interesting name because at this time two years ago, he interviewed for multiple head coaching vacancies, and seemed destined to be the next hot offensive coordinator to get an opportunity to lead a team.

However, Slowik was dismissed as offensive coordinator of the Houston Texans following the 2024 season when C.J. Stroud regressed following arguably the greatest rookie campaign a quarterback has ever had in 2023. Although if you watched Stroud's performance in Houston's season-ending loss to the New England Patriots Sunday, perhaps it wasn't as simple as moving on from Slowik.

Slowik spent this past season as the senior passing game coordinator for the Miami Dolphins. That alone might not make him that appealing, but it's pretty notable that Mike McDaniel — a candidate for nearly every offensive coordinator vacancy and some head coaching jobs — jumped at the chance to hire Slowik.

Both McDaniel and Slowik come from the Shanahan coaching tree. Slowik actually began his NFL coaching career on the staff of the franchise now known as the Washington Commanders under Mike Shanahan, serving as a defensive assistant from 2011-2013. After working at Pro Football Focus from 2014-2016, Slowik returned to the NFL in 2017, serving on Kyle Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers staff as a defensive quality control coach for two seasons. Slowik then transitioned to the offensive side of the ball in 2019, working as an offensive assistant, offensive pass game specialist and offensive passing game coordinator over the next four campaigns.

When DeMeco Ryans got hired as the head coach of the Texans ahead of the 2023 season, he brought Slowik with him from San Francisco, making him the offensive coordinator and play caller.

It's unclear whether Slowik remains under contract with the Dolphins, especially considering that McDaniel was dismissed as their head coach earlier this month. Presumably, the Dolphins won't block him from interviewing with the Eagles even if he is under contract, though it's possible that whoever the next head coach is in Miami wants to retain him in some role.

Slowik wouldn't excite Eagles fans the way that McDaniel, Brian Daboll or Kliff Kingsbury, all former head coaches, would. McDaniel, Daboll or Kingsbury could all be hired as head coaches in this cycle, though, and even if they have to settle for being an OC, there's no guarantee they view the Eagles as the most intriguing landing spot

Still only 38, it's possible that Slowik has grown since his first opportunity as an offensive coordinator and could re-emerge as a hot head coaching candidate if given the chance to call plays. The Princeton, NJ native is worth keeping an eye on, especially with how obsessed the league is with trying to emulate the Shanahan offense.
