The countdown to Girl Scout cookie season is officially underway, and the first major deliveries have arrived in Montgomery County.
Truckloads of cookies were unloaded Wednesday afternoon at Shelly Ridge Service Center, located at 330 Manor Road in Lafayette Hill, where thousands of boxes will be distributed to area troops ahead of sales beginning next week.
From Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties to Caramel Delites, all the fan-favorite flavors were stacked high as troop leaders stopped by throughout the day to pick up their orders and prepare for the busy weeks ahead. In total, more than 57,000 packages of cookies arrived for distribution across the region.
Although cookie sales officially kick off Jan. 15, local Girl Scouts have been preparing for weeks, practicing goal setting, decision-making, and money management skills in anticipation of the busy season.
Proceeds from cookie sales support community service projects, badge programs, summer camp, and travel experiences for local Girl Scouts.
This year, cookie fans will also get to try a brand-new flavor called ExploreMores, featuring chocolate and marshmallows, celebrating the Girl Scouts’ spirit of exploration.
