The Philadelphia Orchestra performs Mahler’s Fourth Symphony along with Barber’s Violin Concerto this weekend at Marian Anderson Hall in the Kimmel Center. Conductor Dalia Stasevska leads the orchestra, and Augustin Hadelich is the violin soloist. Performances are scheduled for Friday and Sunday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 8.
On Wednesday at 7:30 the orchestra will perform with legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma at Anderson Hall. Stasevska will conduct a program featuring Dvorak’s Cello Concerto. The orchestra also will perform Ukrainian composer Fyodor Akimenko’s Nocturne and Mendelssohn’s Fourth Symphony.

Chamber music and art exhibition
The Friends of Chamber Music of Reading present the Daedalus Quartet with pianist Matthew Bengtson on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the WCR Center for the Arts, 140 N. Fifth St., Reading. Joining Bengtson are violinists Min-Young Kim and Matilda Kaul, violist Jessica Thompson and cellist Thomas Kraines.
The program features the world premiere of “Measure” by Luke Carlson along with a performance of Amy Beach’s String Quartet and Brahms Piano Quintet in F minor.
Prior to the concert there will be a reception for the the WCR Center’s exhibition of landscape paintings by artist Carol Fastuca. The reception runs from 5 to 7 p.m., and the exhibition will be on view through early February.
