The Hatboro-Horsham School District is beginning a search for new leadership at two of its schools following the resignations of longtime principals at the high school and elementary levels.
At a recent meeting, the Hatboro-Horsham School Board accepted the resignations of Dennis Williams, principal of Hatboro-Horsham High School, and Karen Kanter, principal of Simmons Elementary School. District officials announced they are now seeking candidates to fill both positions.
Williams, a Hatboro-Horsham graduate, has served as principal of Hatboro-Horsham High School for the past 20 years and worked in the district for 21 years overall. He will leave the district within the next 60 days to accept a new position as director of secondary education in the North Penn School District.
Kanter, who has worked in the Hatboro-Horsham School District for 23 years, will retire at the end of the school year. Her retirement from Simmons Elementary School will be effective June 30.
District officials said the leadership changes present an opportunity to continue building on the district’s strong foundation while bringing new perspectives to both schools.
High School Principal
The principal of Hatboro-Horsham High School will serve as the educational leader and chief administrator of the building, which serves approximately 1,300 students and is supported by 125 faculty members and 250 staff members. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, managing instructional programs, supervising staff, ensuring school safety, and representing the school within the community. The role also includes leadership in curriculum development, promoting college and career readiness, and fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
Simmons Elementary Principal
The Simmons Elementary School principal will lead instructional programs, support teachers, oversee curriculum implementation, and collaborate with specialized services to meet the needs of students. District officials said the position plays a key role in maintaining high expectations for student learning and school climate at the elementary level.
Both principals will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in accordance with district policy and Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines.
The district is encouraging qualified, student-centered candidates interested in leading and inspiring school communities to apply.
