Two Hatboro businesses are facing citations after allegedly selling tobacco products to underage customers during a round of compliance checks conducted by police.

On Sept. 24, 2025, the Hatboro Borough Police Department, in partnership with the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, carried out tobacco compliance inspections across the borough. The checks are designed to ensure retailers are adhering to Pennsylvania’s tobacco laws, which prohibit the sale of cigarettes, vaping products, cigars, and other tobacco items to anyone under the age of 21.

Police said the following retailers failed the inspection and were cited for violating Pennsylvania Crimes Code, Title 18, Section 6305(a)(1) – Sale of Tobacco to Minors:

Dollar General, 317 S. York Road

Hatboro Smoke Shop, 11 S. York Road

Authorities noted that all borough retailers with a state-issued tobacco license are subject to random compliance checks throughout the year. Businesses that repeatedly violate the law risk losing their licenses altogether.

The Hatboro Police Department stated that enforcement efforts will continue and reminded retailers of their responsibility to verify customer IDs to prevent illegal sales.
