Montgomery County Commissioner Thomas DiBello will trade in his suit for an apron on Tue., Oct. 28, when he joins culinary students at Montgomery County Community College’s (MCCC) Hospitality Institute for a hands-on pizza-making session.
Commissioner DiBello, who once owned a pizza shop, will step behind the counter alongside MCCC students to fire up the Institute’s custom-built woodfired pizza oven. Dr. Vicki Bastecki-Perez, President of Montgomery County Community College, will also participate in the event.
The interactive experience reflects MCCC’s ongoing commitment to workforce development, experiential learning, and community engagement. “Opportunities like this connect our students with local leaders and demonstrate how education and industry can come together to strengthen our community,” said Dr. Bastecki-Perez.
Located at 340 DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell, the Hospitality Institute spans more than 20,000 square feet and includes state-of-the-art teaching kitchens, specialized laboratories, and student-run venues such as Bistro 1964 and Bakery 340. The facility provides hands-on training in areas such as Baking & Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, and Tourism & Hospitality Management, with programs that prepare students for success in the region’s growing hospitality sector.
Beyond degree and certificate programs, the Hospitality Institute also offers community culinary workshops, ServSafe certification courses, and summer camps, inviting residents of all ages to experience the art and science of cooking.
