Brian Ciccimaro, 31, of Philadelphia, is facing felony charges stemming from a break-in incident at Wawa located at 106 Bethlehem Pike in Upper Dublin, according to police.
The Upper Dublin Police Department was on patrol in the area of Bethlehem Pike and Highland Avenue when officers observed a male bicyclist, later identified as Ciccimaro, traveling without lights.
As the officer approached, Ciccimaro turned away to conceal his face. Police activated their emergency lights to initiate a stop, but Ciccimaro continued riding north in the southbound lanes before turning left into Ambler Borough.
UDPD contacted Ambler Police and provided location updates and a description of Ciccimaro, who was carrying a backpack at the time. Ambler Police were able to detain the suspect minutes later.
Upon questioning, Ciccimaro admitted to having “a nick of crystal” in his pocket and gave officers permission to search him. Officers recovered four pink vials, two of which contained a white, chunky substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine. Ciccimaro was taken into custody at 2:56 a.m.
Further search revealed five candy bars, and 16 packs of cigarettes inside his backpack.
At that time, police were unaware of any reported thefts in the area. However, at 3:14 a.m., officers received a report of a smashed front door at the Wawa on Bethlehem Pike, which was temporarily closed for remodeling.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, officers confirmed Ciccimaro matched the description of the man in the video.
The video showed Ciccimaro arriving at the store, parking his bicycle near a storage shed, and attempting to open a locked door. Moments later, he entered the shed, and later came out with a metal power washer wand. He then used the tool to shatter the glass front door, climbed inside, and proceeded behind the counter to fill his backpack with packs of cigarettes and candy before leaving through the broken door.
The footage also showed Ciccimaro circling the parking lot multiple times on his bicycle, returning to the front door to take a bottle of Deer Park water from a case near the entrance. He later attempted to re-enter the store but fled the scene, leaving behind a pair of red shoes that had been hanging from his handlebars.
In total, Ciccimaro stole the following items, valued at $229.53:
