Brian Matthew Groo, 25, of Horsham Township, was sentenced by Montgomery County Judge Wendy Rothstein to 100 to 200 years in prison for sexually abusing an infant, recording the abuse, and sharing it online, according to The Reporter.
Rothstein said the lengthy sentence was necessary to protect the public, noting Groo had previously been convicted of possessing child pornography and was already under court supervision when he committed the new crimes.
Groo pleaded guilty to multiple charges including rape of a child, trafficking of minors, and possession and dissemination of child pornography for offenses committed between September and October 2024. Prosecutors said Groo not only consumed but created and traded child sexual abuse material, calling him a “danger to society.”
During sentencing, Groo showed no remorse. The victim’s mother, who had trusted Groo, delivered an emotional statement in court. The judge designated Groo a sexually violent predator, requiring lifelong counseling while incarcerated.
The case began after a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led investigators to Groo via the messaging app Kik. Police swiftly identified and rescued the infant victim the same day.
Groo’s prior offense dated to 2019, when he was caught with hundreds of child pornography files and sentenced to 6–23 months in jail and probation. Despite prior treatment and restrictions barring him from contact with minors, he reoffended. Prosecutors argued only a life-equivalent sentence could prevent further harm to children.
