A woman was transported to a local hospital after being struck by a car on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Wednesday afternoon, according to reports.
The crash occurred on the I-276 near mile marker 337.6 in Whitemarsh Township shortly around 3:30 p. m., according to Montgomery County Dispatch.
Police said a woman allegedly walked onto the Turnpike, where she was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Emergency responders were dispatched immediately, and troopers arriving at the scene found the woman suffering from severe injuries, including injuries to her legs and a good amount of blood was seen by witnesses.
She was airlifted by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement officers.
Officials indicated that the incident is being treated as a possible attempted suicide, though the investigation remains ongoing.
