Horsham Township has reopened its Fitness Court at Lukens Park after a full renovation and equipment upgrade, marking the site as the first in the Philadelphia region to be part of the Independence Blue Cross (IBX) and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) partnership.

Originally opened in 2020, the Fitness Court provides residents with a free outdoor space designed to support workouts for people of all fitness levels.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 15 celebrated the collaboration between Horsham Township, IBX, and NFC, which aims to expand access to outdoor exercise opportunities across the region. The court features seven workout stations where participants can use their body weight for a full-body workout.

“Horsham Township is thrilled to partner with the National Fitness Campaign and Independence Blue Cross to relaunch our Fitness Court,” said Kyle Lynch, Assistant Director of Public Works in Horsham Township. “This exciting collaboration enhances our community’s commitment to health and wellness, enriching the quality of life for both residents and visitors alike.”

Stephen P. Fera, executive vice president of Public Affairs and president of Government Markets at Independence Blue Cross, noted that the reopening reflects the organization’s ongoing investment in community health initiatives. “IBX’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality health and well-being resources across the five-county area reflects our dedication to helping every individual thrive. By investing in programs that strengthen and empower our communities, we are building a healthier, more inclusive future for all,” Fera said.

The Fitness Court, designed for ages 14 and up, offers workouts that can be tailored to different ability levels. Users can also download the free Fitness Court® App, which provides guided workouts and coaching tips to complement the outdoor gym.

“National Fitness Campaign is excited to see Horsham Township impacting the lives of their residents with consistent and engaging community workouts out on the Fitness Court,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “We are thrilled to see the Township join the IBX regional wellness campaign as the leading healthy community in the Philadelphia area.”
