Montgomery County residents will have convenient locations to safely dispose of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications during Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025. The countywide event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The initiative, announced by District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Abington Township Police Chief Patrick Molloy, president of the Montgomery County Police Chiefs Association, aims to keep homes and the environment safe by providing a secure way to dispose of unused or expired medications.
Each of the drop-off sites will be staffed by local police officers. Additional collection sites may be added ahead of the event.
Accepted items include:
- Prescription and over-the-counter tablets and capsules
- Inhalers
- Creams, ointments, and nasal sprays
- Pet medications
- Vaping products
Not accepted: needles, liquid medications, and any intravenous or injectable solutions.
Residents who cannot attend on Oct. 25 can still safely dispose of medications year-round at more than 50 permanent drop-off boxes located throughout Montgomery County, most of which are housed in police departments. These secure boxes are supported by the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association and Pennsylvania American Water, helping prevent drug misuse and protect the county’s water supply.
