Sixers to bring back Hip-Hop for select games as part of ’01 team celebration

Hip-Hop, the Sixers mascot of the Allen Iverson era and beyond, is making a return.

The jumping, flipping, dunking rabbit will serve as the cherry on top of the Sixers' efforts to celebrate the 2001 Finals team, they announced on Monday night.

Hip-Hop is joining Franklin, the team's modern mascot, for a series of tributes throughout the season. The Sixers will celebrate Hip-Hop at the November 8 game against the Toronto Raptors. That game will also mark the first use of the beloved classic jerseys that the Sixers unveiled in September.

There probably wasn't a more athletic mascot than Hip-Hop in all of sports. The Sixers are capitalizing on the nostalgic feelings they've created with the return of those fan-favorite uniforms, so it was only right to bring the acrobatic rabbit back, too.

Upon review, there may not be a creepier mascot than Hip-Hop in all of sports, either. Don't get me wrong, Hip-Hop could shoulder an arena's worth of energy all by himself. It was tremendously fun. But no one would blame your five-year-old if they had nightmares about the hyper rabbit.

Now, with all due respect to the awesome Kate Scott, maybe NBC Sports Philadelphia should bring Marc Zumoff back for a couple of these games to really drive the nostalgia home. Hell, is Eric Snow available to fall asleep on a couple broadcasts?
