A fatal accident closed down part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Monday night after a driver collided with a deer, according to state police reports.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 276 between the Willow Grove and Bensalem exits. Initial reports indicate that a vehicle struck a deer on the roadway, leading to a severe crash that resulted in emergency crews extricating the driver from the vehicle before transporting them for medical evaluation.
The driver of a Mustang hit a deer, and the impact was so powerful that it ripped the roof off the car, according to reports.
All lanes were initially shut down in both directions to allow for rescue operations and investigation. Westbound lanes had reopened to traffic about an hour after the accident, while eastbound lanes remained closed as authorities continued to investigate and clear the wreckage.
