A fatal accident closed down part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Monday night after a driver collided with a deer, according to radio reports.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 276 between the Willow Grove and Bensalem exits. Initial reports indicate that a vehicle struck a deer on the roadway, leading to the severe crash that required emergency crews responded to extricate the driver from the vehicle before transporting them for medical evaluation.
All lanes were initially shut down in both directions to allow for rescue operations and investigation. Westbound lanes were closed for over an hour, but have since reopened to traffic. Eastbound lanes remained closed as authorities continue to investigate and clear the wreckage.
Pennsylvania State Police and Turnpike officials have not yet released the identity of the victim.
