Working in a field that you love is a true blessing. When you can combine two favorites, the rewards are all the more enjoyable. That’s what Aubrey Gordon said when she was able to open Horsham-based Brows by Bree.
Taking a love for cosmetics and merging it with a hobby in tattoos, Gordon has created a cosmetic tattoo studio right in Montgomery County. Specializing in eyebrows, lip blushing and lash liners, but also offering eyebrow tinting and laminations, Gordon wants to help clients throughout the area to feel more confident in their own bodies.
“I’ve been in the beauty industry since 2002, working in everything from hair and makeup to skincare and medical spa management,” said Gordon. “I’ve also been a tattoo lover and collector since I was a teenager.”
Gordon said that her first tattoos came thanks to friends and her own handy-work using tattoo pens at home. While she doesn’t recommend the young start, she’s been a fan ever since. But it was life’s happenstance that helped to push Gordon into business ownership.
“After a company I worked for went bankrupt, I found myself at a crossroads in my career, unsure of my next move,” said Gordon. “A good friend of mine, who’s a tattoo artist, said to me, ‘Why don’t you just tattoo makeup? That’s a thing.’”
Though she’d never thought of combining her loves before, the concept seemed brilliant to Gordon.
“It was a total ‘a-ha moment.’ I’d grown up around tattoo shops and had spent years watching and learning, so the idea of combining the artistry of beauty with the craft of tattooing felt like a dream come true,” she said.
Now fully open to the public following a celebration on Oct. 27, Gordon hopes Brows by Bree will bring a self-esteem boost to its clients.
“My top priority is always to give clients confidence,” said Gordon. “Many people don’t realize how self-conscious women can feel about having little or no eyebrows. The eyes are the focal point of the face, and when that area looks its best, it gives an instant boost of confidence.”
Gordon said that her procedures can also be a time-saving move for clients.
“I also want to give clients freedom — the freedom from having to draw or shape their brows every day,” she said. “Brows are one of the hardest features to master, and most people don’t know how to shape them properly to flatter their bone structure and natural growth. That’s where my expertise and artistic eye come in.”
Gordon said that her unique skillsets, coming together in her profession, can greatly benefit those wanting to escape the anxiety of nailing that perfect shape.
“Before tattooing, I worked as a makeup artist and shaped brows professionally for years, earning a loyal client base for my ability to create flattering, natural shapes,” she said. “Getting your brows professionally designed and tattooed by me saves time, eliminates frustration, and ensures you wake up looking polished and confident every day.”
Hailing from Lansdale, Gordon, who now lives in Warrington, Bucks County, was happy to bring her talents to a local area she knows well.
“I love the area and found it convenient for clients to travel to from all the surrounding counties,” she said of her new Horsham studio. “I even have plenty of out-of-state clients that travel from all over the country. I love this location because it’s so close to [routes] 611, 202, 309, 276, 476, and 95.”
Located at 701 Horsham Road, Suite 101, Brows by Bree is now open to new clients. (Photo by James Short) Gordon, a 2002 graduate of cosmetology school, as well as a Temple University alumnus of the Class of 2008, said she got her experience both in and out of the traditional classroom.“What truly sets me apart from most permanent makeup artists is that my career began in a traditional tattoo shop, where I had the opportunity to apprentice and learn proper tattoo theory, technique, and etiquette,” said Gordon. “That kind of foundation is rare in this industry. Most artists enter the field through short certification courses that last only two or three days. In Pennsylvania, and much of the United States, there are no licensing requirements or regulations for tattooing, which can be concerning.”
Aubrey Gordon, now of Warrington, Bucks County, has chosen to open her new business in Horsham Township. (Photo by James Short Thankfully, that thorough background has Gordon well-versed in both of her trades, cosmetology and tattooing, creating lasting looks for all with permanent make-up. But that doesn’t keep her from expanding on her vast knowledge.“Over the past nine years, I’ve continued to invest in my education, completing around 30 advanced courses to refine my skills and stay at the forefront of the industry,” she said. It all comes together for a truly rewarding experience for her clients.
“I want new clients to know that my business is built on precision, education, and genuine artistry. Cosmetic tattooing is so much more than simply adding color; it is about restoring confidence, enhancing natural beauty, and doing it safely and skillfully. Every face is unique, so I take a fully customized approach to create results that look effortless, balanced, and true to each client’s natural features.”
