Penn Community Bank has kicked off a community-wide initiative to address food insecurity across the region. The Operation Greater Good Food Drive kicks off Wednesday, Nov. 5 and runs through Dec. 17.
“As a community mutual bank, our work goes far beyond the boardroom — it’s about showing up and supporting our neighbors, especially during times of greater need,” Jeane M. Vidoni, president and CEO of Penn Community Bank, said in a statement. “Operation Greater Good Food Drive is another example of how we live out our mission.”
The initiative takes a three-pronged approach, including food collection, corporate giving and grocery store gift cards, according to a press release outlining the program.
Food Collection
All Penn Community Bank financial centers across Bucks, Montgomery, and Lehigh counties will serve as collection sites for non-perishable food donations throughout the initiative. Members of the community are encouraged to drop off shelf-stable items such as canned vegetables, soups, pasta, rice, and cereals.
The bank operates branches in Bucks, Lehigh and Montgomery counties. In Montgomery County, the bank operates two branches – 490 Forty Foot Road, Towamencin Township; and 1651 The Fairway, Abington Township.
Corporate Giving
Penn Community Bank is making a $10,000 contribution to the Bucks County Opportunity Council, a leading agency addressing food insecurity throughout the region. The funds will help the Opportunity Council secure a bulk food order for distribution to local pantries and partner organizations.
Grocery Store Gift Cards
Working with regional food banks, Penn Community Bank will provide grocery store gift cards to support families with immediate needs. The effort is being strengthened through a partnership with Sagefrog Marketing Group, a Doylestown-based firm joining the effort to make additional grocery gift cards available, according to the release.
“For us, joining our community partners shoulder-to-shoulder in times of need is paramount,” Bernard Tynes, executive vice president and chief consumer banking officer, said in a statement. “Through the Operation Greater Good Food Drive, we’re uniting our team members, customers, and partners to fill tables, strengthen families, and build the greater good this holiday season.”
The bank said it anticipated being able to support “thousands of families and individuals” throughout its service area.
Headquartered in Perkasie, Bucks County, Penn Community Bank holds $3 billion in assets and employs more than 300. It provides banking and lending services at financial centers throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, including Bucks, Lehigh and Montgomery counties.
