As the summer season unofficially kicks off, pharmacists at GIANT, 314 Horsham Road, are encouraging Horsham residents to prepare for safe and healthy fun in the sun.
“Whether you’re heading to the beach, hosting a backyard barbecue, or setting off on a road trip, being prepared can make all the difference,” said Nick Koch, director of pharmacy and wellbeing for The GIANT Company. “Our pharmacists are not only here to fill prescriptions and provide vaccinations, but also to help customers with health and wellness advice throughout the summer.”
To help the Horsham community make the most of the season, GIANT’s pharmacy team recommends keeping these four summer essentials on hand:
Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 about 30 minutes before heading outdoors, and reapply regularly—even on cloudy days. Waterproof options are best for swimming or water activities.
Insect Repellent: Protect yourself from mosquitoes and ticks with insect spray or repellent patches. Spray should be applied after sunscreen and only to exposed skin or clothing. Be sure to keep repellent out of reach of children and wash hands after use.
Hydration: Staying hydrated is key during hot weather. Drink water consistently throughout the day—even before you feel thirsty. Adding fruit slices or a splash of juice can enhance flavor. Fresh produce like cucumbers and watermelon also help maintain hydration.
First Aid Kit: Whether you're at home or on the move, a well-stocked first aid kit can help handle minor injuries and discomfort. GIANT pharmacists suggest including items like bandages, gauze, hydrocortisone cream, antibiotic ointment, pain relievers, sunscreen, and itch relief for bug bites.
For those with international travel plans, GIANT pharmacists also offer pre-travel health consultations at select locations. Services include travel-related vaccinations, prescription referrals, and over-the-counter recommendations for issues like altitude sickness and malaria prevention. Residents can bring their insurance card and travel itinerary to any of the 37 participating GIANT pharmacies offering this service.
