A sinkhole opened in the middle of Welsh Road Monday morning, forcing authorities to close the roadway between Stump Road and Gwynedd Lea Drive for at least the remainder of the week.
The sinkhole was caused by the rupture of a 20-inch water main, which undermined the road’s structural integrity. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has stated that repair work is expected to continue throughout the week.
Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes as crews work to assess the damage and complete necessary repairs.
