A special bench dedication ceremony will be held on May 17 at 11:30 a.m. to honor former tax collector Judy Emig and her husband, George "Skip" Emig. The ceremony will take place at the Hatboro Pool, located at 330 W. Moreland Avenue in Hatboro, just before the start of the Community Day event.

The Borough of Hatboro recently published a program for the event, which included the following:

Judith A. Emig and George C. Emig, Jr., affectionately known as "Judy, and “Skip”, shared a life filled with love, adventure, and service to their community.

Judy was a dedicated individual, having served as Hatboro’s Tax Collector for over 35 years prior to her retirement in 2019. Judy met everyone who visited her office with a smile and somehow found a way to make paying taxes an enjoyable process for residents. In addition to collecting taxes in Hatboro, she also served as Treasurer of the Pennsylvania State Tax Collectors Association.

Like Judy, Skip also dedicated his life to serving his community in many capacities. Over the years, Skip served as the Hatboro Constable and as a member of the Borough Authority. He was also an integral part of securing funding for the Hatboro Pool improvements in the late 2000s which included the beloved big red slide, zero depth entry, and more.

In their free time, Judy and Skip, shared an immense passion for swimming. Skip's love for the sport was matched by Judy's dedication. They spent countless years on the pool deck, with Skip serving as a starter/referee and pool parent, and Judy by his side, supporting and contributing to the swimming community. Their commitment to swimming was just one reflection of their vibrant spirits and selflessness in all aspects of life.

While their service to our community was extremely impressive, their most notable accomplishment was their family. Judy and Skip were proud parents to Leanne and “Kip” (George C. Emig III) and grandparents to Grace, Luke, and Shelby whom they adored more than anything in this world. Family was everything for Judy and Skip and it meant the world to see their children/ grandchildren share their passion for swimming.

Judy and Skip’s commitment to their community was truly remarkable, and their contributions left a lasting impact on Hatboro and its residents. Today we gather at the Hatboro Memorial Pool, a place near and dear to the Emig Family, to dedicate a bench in their honor. We hope their legacy continues to inspire those within our community to strive for greatness both inside the water and out.
