Police departments may be known for handcuffs and badges, but thanks to Project Linus, they're now armed with something a bit cozier—blankets.
The Horsham Police Department and the Hatboro Police Department recently were the recipients of a shipment of blankets thanks to non-profit's Montgomery County Chapter Coordinator Jackie Raginsky.
"I had an abundance and my regular recipients got all they needed," said Raginsky. "So I want them to get to the children. I've reached out to police departments asking if they would like to have blankets, if they need them for a child that they either come across at an accident or whatever the case may be."
Raginsky has been the Montgomery County and Bucks County coordinator for Project Linus for the last year and a half, and over that period of time she has reached out to numerous police departments with blankets.
"I have connected with upper Dublin, Upper Moreland, Abington and Upper Merion," Raginsky said.
She also donates extra blankets to hospitals and other organizations. Patients at Abington Memorial Hospital, Shriner's, as well as others, have been recipients of the blankets.
"It is very worthwhile," Raginsky said.
"The Hatboro Police Department would like to thank Jackie Raginsky, Chapter Coordinator for Project Linus for providing our department with handmade blankets to provide to children we encounter who are ill, traumatized or otherwise in need to provide a sense of security, warmth, or comfort," the Hatboro Police Department wrote.
Since 1995 Project Linus has delivered over 10,000 blankets to children throughout the United States. Project Linus is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
About Project Linus
Project Linus is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing handmade blankets to children in need of comfort and security. Volunteers across the United States, known as "blanketeers," create and donate blankets to local chapters, which then distribute them to hospitals, shelters, foster care centers, and disaster relief agencies.
