To close out Women's History Month, Horsham Township is honoring the women who continue to make meaningful impacts in the community.
Horsham Township recently released a video tribute featuring women who have made a difference in Horsham. "Women Who Lead: Celebrating Horsham’s Changemakers" was published on YouTube on March 28.
The video features Regina Vessely, Director of Library and Rec Services, Councilwoman Samantha Staff, Councilwoman Ellen Zschunke, Detective Sergeant Gloria Hatcher, Director of Finance Susan Zepp, and Business Manager Tina O'Rourke.
The women were asked what advice they would give to other women entering their field of work, what impact having women in leadership roles has, solving community issues, and more.
"If I could give a woman entering law enforcement any advice, I would say to spend less time and energy trying to be somebody that you're not just to fit the mold of what you think a police officer should be, and spend more time and energy fostering your own strengths and bring something new to the table," said Sgt. Hatcher.
"I think that local government is a reflection of the community and having women represented and with a voice in each level is very important especially at the local level where it all starts," Vessely said.
When asked to describe in one word what it means to be in a leadership role in the community, the women used words like, "proud" and "humbled."
"I would like to be known for being a good leader and an advocate for the community," said Staff. "I enjoy facilitating engagement and dialogue and solution for residents. And as it relates to women specifically, I want to be a good advocate for women to be involved more in municipal government and shape what our communities look like."
Horsham Township wrote, "Their dedication, leadership, and contributions have had a profound impact on our community, inspiring others and shaping a brighter future. This video highlights their achievements and recognizes the vital roles they play in making Horsham a better place for all. We are proud to celebrate their hard work and commitment, and we thank them for their invaluable service."
