Hatboro-Horsham's Annie Jia breaks PIAA record, earns Swimmer of Meet at 3A Championships

A group of local swimmers made waves in the pool over the weekend at the PIAA-3A Championships.

Hosted at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium from March 12-15, Annie Jia, of Hatboro-Horsham High School, ended her career with bang earning a new meet record and a gold medal. Jia, who is committed to California, earned PIAA 3A Girls Swimmer of the Meet honors thanks to her performance. 

Jia won gold in four events and set three new records: 200 IM, 100 Fly (setting a new record), 200 Free Relay, (setting the 50 Free record as the lead off) and 400 Free Relay (setting the 100 Free as the lead off).

The Hatobo-Horsham team finished in first place in the 400 free relay. Jia was joined by Megan Luddecke, Sarah Parker and Emmy Erikson. Jia’s leadoff leg of 48.27 broke the PIAA 100 free record of 48.85 set by State College’s Molly Workman when Workman won the 100 free final earlier in the meet.

Upper Dublin’s Sophia Sileo-Magliari took first place in the 100 breaststroke and helped the Cardinals capture the PIAA Girls 3A Championship. 

For Upper Dublin, it was its first team title since 2020, totaling 261 points. Wilson-West Lawn finished in second (188 points), while Hatboro-Horsham finished in third (180).

Upper Dublin’s Toby Herzog earned a gold medal for the boys team in the 100 breast. The Upper Dublin boys won gold in the 200 medley relay. The team consisted of Franco Ciccarone, Herzog, William Matthews and Manser winning with an NFHS Honor Roll time of 1:30.42.

Wissahickon senior Nora Weber defended her 500 freestyle title, winning with an NFHS Honor Roll time of 4:49.24. Weber won in 2024 at 4:49.85.

Notable Events and Results:

200-yard Medley Relay: Wilson earned gold, setting a state record with a time of 1:41.47. 

200 Freestyle Relay: Hatboro-Horsham won with a time of 1:32.99. 

400 Freestyle Relay: Hatboro-Horsham won with a time of 3:23.29. 

100 Freestyle: State College's Molly Workman set a PIAA record with a time of 48.85, which was later broken by Hatboro-Horsham's Annie Jia in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 48.27.
