Work has officially begun at the corner of Horsham Road & Dresher Road in Horsham Township for the Pennypack Creek Stream Bank Stabilization Project.
This project helps prevent erosion, improves water quality, reduces flood risks, and protects nearby roads and properties. It also enhances local wildlife habitats and promotes a healthier, more stable waterway for the Horsham community.
According to Horsham Township, there should be very limited impacts to traffic on Dresher Road
"We appreciate your patience as this important work is completed and will keep you updated on progress," the township wrote.
The project involves restoration of Pennypack Creek’s streambank. The north banks will be cut back and stabilized using bio-engineering techniques and the south banks will use a combination of geotextile soil wrap and brush mattresses due to the steeper slopes of the upland areas. Native plantings are included. The contractor will perform erosion control, demolition, grading, installation of stormwater improvements, and plantings .
The Pennypack Creek Stream Bank Stabilization Project is a significant environmental restoration effort aimed at improving the health and stability of Pennypack Creek, which flows through parts of Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia. The project focuses on stabilizing the creek's banks to prevent erosion, reduce sedimentation, and protect infrastructure, such as nearby roads and sewer systems.
By addressing these issues, the project not only enhances the creek's ecological health, but also helps to improve water quality and reduce flood risks for surrounding communities. Additionally, the project includes the use of native plants and natural materials to restore habitats, promote biodiversity, and create long-term sustainability for the creek ecosystem. The Pennypack Creek Stream Bank Stabilization Project is part of broader efforts to enhance watershed management and preserve vital green spaces along the creek, benefiting both local wildlife and the people who live near it.
