The Horsham Police Department recognized one of their own for his quick thinking and life-saving skills.

During a ceremony, the HPD handed out numerous commendations to police officers for their exemplary work.

Officer Theodore Hrycyszy received the commendation for merit, in recognition for an act of intelligent and valuable police service, demonstrating faithfulness and perseverance, including a lifesaving act or an especially important arrest, accomplished through intelligent police performance.

On the July 4, 2024 Horsham Township Police officers were dispatched to a vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on County Line Road. Officer Hrycyszyn responded and found the motorcyclist on the ground suffering from multiple serious injuries. Officer Hrycyszyn assessed the injuries, and as a result, skillfully applied a tourniquet to the patient’s left leg to control his severe bleeding. He also maintained the patient’s airway and calmly communicated with other responding emergency services until they arrived, according to police.

"Officer Hrycyszyn exemplified the core values of our organization," Horsham Police Department wrote. "His actions upheld the highest standards of professionalism and made a positive impact on the lives of those affected by this unfortunate event. Without Officer Hrycyszyn’s quick and decisive action, the victim would have likely perished because of his injuries and severe bleeding."
