Blair Mill Elementary School joined schools nationwide in celebrating Read Across America Day with a day full of literacy-focused activities designed to inspire a love of reading.
Students, teachers, and staff came together on Feb. 28 to honor the importance of books and storytelling, with guest readers, interactive book-themed events, and a school-wide reading challenge.
One of the highlights of the day was a visit from local community leaders and authors, who read their favorite childhood stories to students in different grade levels. Teachers also incorporated themed lessons and fun reading stations, where students explored different genres and participated in discussions about their favorite books. Many students dressed as beloved literary characters, adding to the excitement and engagement.
Joining in on the fun were:
"Reading is important because it helps us learn new things, build knowledge and develop critical thinking skills," the township said. "It can also improve our memory, communication skills and mental health."
The school also encouraged family participation, inviting parents and guardians to read with their children at home and share their favorite books.
