A fire, explosions reported at SPS Technologies in Abington Township

Abington Township recently recognized the tireless effort of responding police officers, fire emergency crews, EMS, and additional staff who battled the fire at SPS Technologies for 114 consecutive hours.
“Abington Township would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the courageous emergency responders,” the township wrote. “This unprecedented fire required an extensive and around-the-clock emergency response; a response that demonstrated the extraordinary courage, strength, professionalism, training, capabilities, and commitment to service of our first responders at the local, county, state and federal levels. Their relentless efforts and dedication ensured the safety of our and surrounding communities and minimized the damage caused by this devastating incident.
“We recognize the sacrifices made by these responders, including long hours, extreme conditions, and the risks they faced to protect lives and property,” Abington Township added. “We would also like to acknowledge their families and their sacrifice, strength, and support throughout the entire incident.”
