A resident of the Upper Moreland section of Willow Grove is facing multiple charges following a violent incident in Allentown late Friday night that began with a car crash and escalated into an assault inside a home, according to police.
Daniel Francisco Santiago, 27, faces charges of burglary, aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, and driving under the influence after being taken into custody by the Allentown Police Department.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 100 block of West Turner Street. Responding officers were initially called to the scene for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, however, they were quickly redirected to a nearby residence where a disturbance was reported.
Inside the home, police found a woman suffering from a slash wound to the head. According to officials, she was transported by Allentown EMS to a local hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses told police that the man, later identified as Santiago, had crashed into a parked vehicle and was attempting to flee the scene when bystanders, including the victim, intervened. A verbal altercation followed, and the victim and a witness retreated into a nearby home.
Police say Santiago followed the woman inside, where he allegedly assaulted her with a cutting instrument.
