Borough of Hatboro officials have announced that township and administration buildings and offices will be closed on Thursday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.
The Public Works Department, however, is still scheduled to collect trash, recycling, and yard waste for residents with a Thursday pickup.
Public Works employees receiving "floating holiday" vacation days to make up for working on the National observance.
"The Borough attempts to limit as much interruption to trash and recycling collection as possible," the Borough's announcement stated. "This holiday falls on a normal collection day. The Public Works staff has the same amount of holidays as the office staff, just office staff observe on actual holiday where again PW gets floating days to use to minimize interruption to the services they provide to the residents and business owners in Hatboro Borough."
In related news, June 17 was Global Garbage Man Day, a holiday celebrating trash men, dumpster haulers, sewage workers, and street cleaners.
The Borough of Hatboro called out to its residents to join in the celebration to show their appreciation to the local trash men and the Public Works Department.
"Every day, the Public Works Department works tirelessly, collecting trash and recycling, maintaining the Borough’s roads and parks, and keeping our community clean," the Borough of Hatboro wrote. "On behalf of the entire Borough, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to our community, Public Works."
