Police discover six firearms in vehicle during traffic stop near Easton Road, according to police

William J Clemons, 23, of the 400 block of Krewson Terrace in Willow Grove, faces felony charges stemming from a traffic stop in Upper Moreland Township, according to police. 

A police officer from the Upper Moreland Township Police Department observed a silver Chrysler 300 with expired inspection stickers in the area of Easton Road and Allison Road, according to police. 

While trailing the vehicle, the Chrysler made multiple lane changes and accelerated northbound on Easton Road in what appeared to be an attempt to evade the patrol vehicle, according to police.

The police officer eventually conducted a traffic stop on Barret Road in front of Nibras Day School, according to police.

Police made contact with the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Clemons, who was tapping his right leg rapidly while sitting in the vehicle, according to police. His arms and hands were also trembling, according to police.

Clemons told police he just left his residence on Krewson Terrace and was headed to work, which was less than one mile from where the police officer initiated the traffic stop, according to police.

Clemons could not provide vehicle paperwork or a physical copy of his identification, according to police.

During the police officer’s contact with Clemons, the officer observed the following in plain view: 

  • Two small square plastic bags with a white powdery residue at Clemeons’ feet, which, according to police, is commonly used to carry narcotics.
  • A small plastic drink straw that was cut shorter in length. According to police, this is commonly uised to inhale various drugs and narcotics through the nose. 
  • Black square box sitting in the rear passenger side seat. The box was labeled with red lettering, “GSG” “German Sport Guns”

Clemons told police officers that a firearm was in the vehicle, but he did not have a valid permit to carry the weapon, according to police.

According to police, Clemons was hesitant to answer questions about the firearm(s). According to police, Clemons seemed unsure about how many firearms were in the vehicle, telling the officer that the vehicle and its belongings were of his deceased father. 

Police seized the black box and recovered an unloaded semi-automatic submachine gun, according to police.

After initially denying consent to search the vehicle, Clemons later agreed to allow the officer to search his car after a narcotics K-9 from Montgomery County was requested, according to police.

Police recovered a Taurus model semi-automatic handgun .380 Caliber in between the driver’s seat and the center console according to police. The police officer removed the loaded magazine from the firearm, and a live .380 caliber round from the chamber. Clemons was then placed into custody, according to police.

A search warrant was executed on July 22 and police recovered the following items: 

  • Firearm, a Browning Arms Company CAL 6 MM 35, loaded with live rounds, inside a black leather zip up bag
  • Firearm, Heritage Rough Rider 22 Cal.
  • Firearm, Explorer II .22 Cal. with accessories
  • Firearm, Taurus PT738 with holster, magazine and ammunition
  • Firearm, GSG, 522 PK Pistol in case with accessories
  • Firearm, Rock Island Armory M1911A1
  • 10 45 Caliber live ammunition rounds
  • One cut down straw, with white residue on inside
  • 15 assorted ammunition from black school bag
  • RP 45 AUTO live ammunition round
  • Classic RAW cone slow burning papers
  • Black backpack with assorted live ammunition
  • Three marijuana grinders and paraphernalia
  • Green metal marijuana grinder

Clemons is now facing a felony charge of Firearms not to be carried without a license. 

Clemons has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 1, at 10:30 amin front of Judge Thomas P. Murt Clemons posted bail, which was set at $10,000.
