The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has been recognized with a new accreditation granted by the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners.

Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Janine Darby offered the update to county commissioners during a June 18 board meeting concerning the premier accreditation as she spotlighted the department and her staff.

“This prestigious recognition places us among a distinguished group of agencies nationwide that meet the highest standards in forensic science, public service and operational integrity,” Darby said. “Accreditation enhances our credibility, strengthens public trust and affirms our commitment to best practices. It also gives us a competitive edge in securing grant funding and significantly boosts employee morale and professional development.”

Darby has led the county agency since being elected in November 2023. The agency also got a major upgrade that same year, unveiling a new $9.5 million nearly 22,000-square-foot facility, situated between the county’s emergency operations center and correctional facility along Eagleville Road in Lower Providence Township.

“We remain deeply committed to serving the residents of Montgomery County with integrity, transparency and compassion,” Darby said.

Darby also serves as chairwoman of the Lower Providence Township Board of Supervisors. Fellow elected officials applauded Darby for her efforts focusing on making the county agency more accessible to area residents. Montgomery County Commissioners’ Vice Chairwoman Jamila Winder touted opportunities focused on “community engagement, outreach [and] programming.”

“It’s an honor to work alongside you,” Winder said, adding that “I know any accreditation process is daunting and laborious, but you made it to the other side of it. So congrats to you and the entire team.”

“Thank you for always taking it to the next level and showing us what you can do,” said Montgomery County Commissioners’ Chairman Neil Makhija.
