The former community staple in Horsham has started its renovation to becoming a self-storage facility.
Demolition of Joseph’s Catering began to make way for construction of a new build three-story, 120-000-sq.ft. storage facility, which sits on a little more than 5 acres of land at 901 Horsham Rd.
Horsham Township Council gave final approval for the construction project in 2023 after a decade of proposals. Project specifics call for new parking, lighting and new sidewalks.
"I do believe this is the best that has come along," said Township Manager Bill Walker in regard to proposals that have come before the township
The facility will be for personal storage with businesses prohibited from storing equipment. As part of the project, street lamps also will be added along Horsham Rd. from Babylon Rd. to the high school property line.
“We had our wedding reception there in 1977,” said one resident on Facebook. “Sorry to see it go.”
Joseph’s Catering, owned by the Messina family, was a landmark in the community for more than 50 years.
“Messina's were pillars of the community.” another user wrote.
"Thank you so much, Joseph's Catering," Horsham Township wrote on its Facebook page. "You were a big part of our community for over 50 years. Not only were you a local business, but you were also township residents and big supporters of our community. We will miss you but wish you a well-deserved, happy retirement."
