Rumor: Sixers linked to former Warriors champion executive

According to NBA gossiper Bill Simmons, the Sixers have been linked to former Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers:

"You know, Bob Myers helped Washington with the football team, right? He was on that advisory committee and I just feel like he's looming with this Sixers thing. And I don't think I'm alone," Simmons says. "There's been some Bob Myers Philly buzz that I think has been building because I think he had a good experience with Josh Harris. If there is a fall guy, which we talked about earlier, it's going to be Nick Nurse and Daryl Morey."

Well, Simmons certainly isn't alone. Some in league circles have connected Myers to Philadelphia in conversations with On Pattison dating back to early December. But, that is not to suggest that key stakeholders in the franchise want Morey out, a source has maintained to On Pattison. However, as Simmons suggests, it wouldn't be all that surprising if Sixers brass were to cast blame in Morey's direction if this season ends the way it's currently trending.

Harris, who is about to watch the Washington Commanders compete in the NFC championship game in his second season as owner, might see some degree of correlation between changing leadership and success. Myers, who was instrumental in Harris landing on hires such as general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn, ostensibly has a positive enough relationship with the Sixers managing partner to at least make recommendations, if nothing further.

We're still a long ways away from this coming into question. But, let's pretend for a moment that Myers is eventually the lead executive of this team. That rebuilds some equity with your fanbase. Myers has the rings that Morey has long pursued but never captured. It would hit the reset button for a fanbase that is increasingly checked out on the franchise. While Myers has the bling to show for his efforts, much of the groundwork for the Warriors' championship core had already been laid. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were drafted before his time. The biggest staples of his tenure were extending Thompson instead of trading him in a deal that would've brought Kevin Love to the Warriors, a strong 2012 draft class in Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green, landing Kevin Durant in free agency as a result of a flukey salary cap spike and acquiring Andrew Wiggins.

He's also had some misfires, most notably using a lottery pick that theoretically could've bridged the Splash Brothers era to present times on James Wiseman, who has been a massive bust up to this point in his career.

Regardless, this isn't even a real conversation until, well, Morey is no longer the guy in charge, if that day even comes within the next year. But, if it were to happen, it would introduce all kinds of questions about what the future holds for everyone in Sixer world - from the head coach down to the core of the roster.
