Any home that has a gun of any kind should have a lock for safety. And if that same home has a child in it, it is even more crucial to keep all involved safe.
The Hatboro Police Department wants to make that step an easy one for its residents. To do so, Project Childsafe has provided the department with free gun locks available to anyone who stops by for one.
Project Childsafe is a nationwide program, offering educational resources and materials to promote responsible gun ownership. As a focus, the program promotes the safe storage of firearms in the home.
“The program was developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearm industry, to raise awareness about firearm safety,” said Hatboro Police Chief Mark D. Ruegg on the department’s CrimeWatch page. “Central to this program are the free cable-style gun locks and educational materials gun owners can use to securely store their guns away from unauthorized persons, including children, at-risk individuals, and criminals.”
The borough’s department has partnered with the program to bring the materials, including free gun safety kits, which include a gun lock, to the community.
“If you would like a gun safety kit, stop by our police department and speak with one of our police operations clerks,” said Ruegg.
The Hatboro Police Department is located at 120 E. Montgomery Ave., in Hatboro. The office is open 24 hours per day, every day of the year. For more information on the Project Childsafe program, visit the website here.
