A Hatboro man who was previously banned from the Willow Grove Walmart faces felony charges after committing an additional retail theft, police say.

According to a police criminal complaint, the Upper Moreland Township Police Department was called to the Walmart at 2101 Blair Mill Road on Jan. 8, 2025 for the delayed report of a retail theft. The Walmart Asset Protection loss prevention officer said that, on Jan. 8 around 1:24 p.m., a suspect concealed three DVDs, valued at $27.96, on his person and walked past all points of sale, said the complaint.

The LPO recognized the individual as Arthur Joseph Egan Jr., 72, of the unit block of East Moreland Avenue, in Hatboro. Egan fled the Walmart in a gray Nissan Altima with Pennsylvania tags, police said. The same vehicle is registered to Egan, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said that Egan had been charged with a retail theft count from this same Willow Grove location on Aug. 27, 2024. He was told at that time, by police, that he was not to return to this Walmart location, said the complaint. Additionally, Egan was told by the magisterial district judge he was not to enter the Willow Grove Walmart again, said police.

Due to the previous banning and past retail thefts, Egan is charged with felony retail theft, along with the misdemeanor count of defiant trespasser. Egan was released on a bond signature after a preliminary arraignment on Jan. 14.

Egan is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Thomas P. Murt.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
