Mission Kids, the Montgomery County non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children who have experienced abuse or trauma, recently honored Horsham Police Department Detective Kim Ngo.
Det. Ngo was featured in the Mission Kids Multidisciplinary Team Spotlight for her tireless efforts to investigate cases of child abuse and ensure justice for survivors.
According to Ngo, who was a former ballet dancer before entering the police force, one of the most rewarding parts of her job is working alongside K9 Mac, an Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) dog. Mac is a 3-year-old Labrador/Golden Retriever mix who, since August 2023, has been alongside Det. Ngo—helping to uncover hidden electronic evidence and bringing comfort and smiles to victims of abuse.
According to Ngo, watching K9 Mac provide support to children has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of her career.
"In August 2023, I became a K9 handler for ESD K9 Mac," Detective Ngo said. "Mac cannot only sniff out electronic storage devices that many be hidden during search warrants but he also provides comfort to victims. The most rewarding part of my job is watching K9 Mac bring a smile to everyone's face, especially children who are victims of abuse. I am amazed every day at what K9 Mac can do."
In March 2022, Detective Ngo was spotlighted during Women's History Month for her contributions to the community.
In December 2024, Detective Ngo and K-9 Mac got to show off their skills at Citizens Bank Park.
Throughout her career, Det. Ngo emphasizes the importance of awareness, reminding parents and caregivers to regularly check in with children in an age-appropriate way—because child abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of background.
