Cole Hamels says he'll be on one home Phillies broadcast per month

There are now additional details on the role that Cole Hamels will have on NBC Sports Philadelphia telecasts during the 2025 season.

Back in December, PHLY's Jim Salisbury reported that Hamels — the 2008 World Series MVP — would appear on the TV broadcasts this season, in addition to being at Phillies Phantasy Camp and serving as a guest instructor during Spring Training. 

Hamels spoke to the collective media in Clearwater earlier this week — including Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation — and said that he plans to work one home game per month in the broadcast booth. 

“I would like to take that opportunity, and see if that works,” Hamels said, per Lugardo. “Philly, it’s just been such a great organization and great city. So it’s something that I think if I can try something new out and see if it works out.”

The four-time All-Star isn't replacing John Kruk, Ruben Amaro Jr. or Ben Davis, but rather will serve as a third mic along with play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy for games he's on. Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt has a similar role for Sunday home games. Jimmy Rollins, Hamels' long-time teammate, previously made occasional appearances with the broadcast team for a few seasons beginning in 2019. 

This will be the 16th full season that McCarthy is the lead TV play-by-play voice of the Phillies, as he succeeded the legendary Harry Kalas upon his passing in April of 2009. The booth around McCarthy was often in flux early in his tenure, but has settled down in recent years. Davis has been one of McCarthy's game analysts since 2015, while Kruk joined in 2017 and Amaro in 2020.
