The Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC) is now seeking applications for the 2025 cycle of the Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program.
This program provides funds to municipalities to make targeted physical improvements that achieve progress toward the goals of the County’s current comprehensive plan, Montco 2040: A Shared Vision. Applications are due March 3, 2025.
The grant program focuses on supporting local projects that connect with the plan’s themes of Connected Communities, Sustainable Places, and Vibrant Economy. This program has been a very successful way of implementing the County’s plan at the local level. Its funded and completed projects over the years have included historic building renovations, murals, streambank restorations, park and recreational facility enhancements, and pedestrian and bike safety upgrades.
“The Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program serves to bring innovative, community-driven projects to life,” said Neil K. Makhija, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “By funding projects like solar installation for community buildings, improvements to parks and trails, and accessibility updates for both downtown and rural spaces, the program helps our municipalities enhance residents’ daily lives. Even with this program entering its tenth year, we continue to see incredible potential for new projects that connect people and support sustainability.”
For the 2025 cycle, a funding allotment of $3 million is available on a competitive grant basis for municipalities and their partners to work on projects that align with the comprehensive plan and that positively enhance their local communities.
This year's guidelines have been updated with an expanded transportation focus category to include some projects previously funded through the County Transportation Program grant program. Multi-municipal projects are strongly encouraged and can be funded up to $350,000. Projects in one municipality can be funded up to $250,000.
While the program is open to a wide array of projects fitting within the comprehensive plan, specific Focus Categories that highlight recent County planning initiatives relate to each cycle. Projects that fall under a Focus Category receive greater consideration during the application review.
The 2025 Focus Categories are:
• Transportation & Mobility Improvements
• Support of Downtowns and Community Destinations
• Adaptation and Resiliency
Other project types that meet the goals of the County comprehensive plan may also be eligible. More information and complete guidelines for the 2025 cycle along with application forms and instructions and a brochure that provides a complete list and suggestions for eligible projects are available at www.montgomerycountypa.gov/Montco2040GrantProgram.
Since its inception in 2016, the Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program has awarded over $18 million to 140 projects in 53 municipalities in Montgomery County.
